This role will be working on drug discovery related research projects within the Oncology Bioinformatics department at Genentech. Here, we develop and apply Client computational concepts to molecular data to better understand the biology of cancer and develop therapeutic opportunities. The candidate for this role will have a strong background in computational biology and -omics data analysis, an excitement to contribute to early-stage drug programs, and at least some experience leveraging advanced computational models or machine learning / deep learning frameworks.

A Senior Research Scientist position is available immediately in Prof Chng Wee Joo’s groups for a highly motivated PhD graduate with experience in Bioinformatics (computational genomics). The focus of the lab is on deciphering transcriptional and genomic abnormalities in the context of blood cancer, including epigenetic and superenhancer deregulation, using single cell sequencing amongst other genomics techniques.

Primarily conduct bioinformatics data analysis, with some involvement in software development projects, in a highly interdisciplinary, dynamic and team-based environment. Participation in a range of projects will be expected, with the initial focus on a mult-omics analysis of a Schizophrenia cohort as part of ongoing collaboration.

This position is responsible for assisting in the development of custom bioinformatics applications and conducting in-depth in-silico analysis and bioinformatics required for development of sequencing services and other molecular methods offered to various research and development, on-market product and technical support teams. The Computational Biologist will play a significant leadership role in research projects within the Applied Genomics Centre (AGC) by conceptualizing, designing and building bioinformatic pipelines and protocols for applied research projects. They will also be responsible for organizing and maintaining large data sets and bioinformatic tools for the AGC.

The Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) is a leading international organization for genomics and bioinformatics research. Our mandate is to advance knowledge in those areas, and to realize the social and economic benefits of genomics research. The Research Programmer analyzes large-scale genomics data and provides support for research projects in the Bioinformatics Technology Lab (BTL) / Genome Sciences Centre - BC Cancer through developing software, data models, analysis pipelines, and documentation. The successful candidate will work independently in a multidisciplinary environment, and participate as a project team member on specific genome research projects to develop / test code and help analyze large volumes of genomics data.

The chosen candidate will perform advanced bioinformatics analyses that enable the interpretation of data generated by various biological assays. Working closely with other members of the McGill Genome Centre, the chosen candidate will be exposed to a wide variety of novel sequencing technologies, bioinformatics approaches, and state of the art computing resources in a facility dedicated to high-throughput sequencing and large-scale genomic studies.
