We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Computational Biologist with a strong background in microbiology to join our team in Cambridge, MA.  This individual will join the Cell Based Sciences team in Analytical Research and Development and collaborate closely with colleagues across the company's network.

The Bioinformatics Analyst serves as the technical authority on computational issues related to the assigned projects/programs. In this role, he/she will validate and maintain genomic analysis pipelines for exome, whole genome and RNA-seq data generated from the MoCha lab and/or collaborator(s) and help provide biological interpretation of the genomic analysis to advance the understanding of cancer. This position will also be responsible for the organization and management of large genomic datasets, and the integration of data from multiple sources. He/She may supervise and collaborate with other bioinformatics team members to ensure the quality of work and the prioritization of projects to meet deadlines.

The Bioinformatics and Computational Science (BACS) Directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of bioinformatics and computational science by developing and applying world-leading computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, data science, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and utilizing leading-edge software.

You will also have the opportunity to apply the tools you develop to drive drug discovery projects, by providing fast and accurate estimates of protein-ligand binding free energies.

The postdoctoral candidate must be interested in the fields of computational biology, applied mathematics, and interdisciplinary scholarship across bioengineering and statistics. The appointment is initially for one year but is renewable for one additional year contingent upon funding and performance.

Candidates should have strong background in bioinformatics, genomics/transcriptomics, computer science, statistics, or other related fields. Those who are interested in computational genomics and transcriptomics, particularly in analysis and integration of various genomics/transcriptomics data, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will analyze and integrate in-house NGS datasets (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, DNA-seq, eCLIP-seq, MeDIP-seq, etc) and also utilize publicly available genomic/transriptomics/clinical data sets to identify novel biological biomarkers/patterns and regulatory mechanisms.

Aberrant lipid metabolism is linked genetically to risk of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), Parkinson’s Disease with Dementia (PDD), and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). It is not known how lipid metabolism mechanistically contributes to cognitive decline nor whether onset of dementia can be delayed by intervening in lipid metabolism. We hypothesize that specific disruptions in phospholipid and sphingolipid metabolic networks act synergistically with α-synuclein (α-syn) and amyloid-β (Aβ) to elicit cognitive decline
