Job Description:
The Impact You’ll Make
In this role, you will be at the forefront of reimagining neuroscience drug discovery using Recursion’s unique capacity to perform >1 million experiments per week. You will be part of multiple computational and/or therapeutics projects from inception to preclinical development, with the ultimate goal of bringing life-changing therapeutics to patients living with neurological or neurodegenerative disease. As a computational biologist you will:
- Integrate and analyze pre-clinical internal and public domain datasets to generate and evaluate hypotheses for new disease indications, drug discovery, biomarker development and mechanism of action
- Accelerate translational neuroscience discovery through your ability to design and productionize analyses, data integration, and data interpretation
- Drive collaborations with internal groups and external partners for target nomination, in-vitro and in-vivo validation, data science, and machine learning
- Work cross-functionally with Recursion’s data science and drug development teams to further advance Recursion’s ability to interpret and translate large-scale phenomics data into therapeutic programs
- Lead drug discovery programs in neuroscience and rare disease
- Use established bioinformatic analysis pipelines and propose innovative solutions to integrate and interpret -omics data types including genomics, transcriptomics, single cell sequencing, proteomics, and metabolomics using appropriate computational and statistical methods
- Create visualizations, interpret high dimensional data, and explain results to cross-functional teams
- Work collaboratively with data scientists and data engineering groups to enhance our computational infrastructure, user interface, query, and visualization capabilities
- Present data effectively to participants across levels and functional groups in the organization
- Iterate quickly to move from ideation to validation on multiple projects at an accelerated pace
The Team You’ll Join
We are building diverse and collaborative drug discovery teams that are data-driven from the ground up. Our group is a bold, agile, interdisciplinary collective of biological, computational, drug discovery, and machine learning scientists deeply focused on the singular goal of bringing new therapeutics to patients at an accelerated pace. You will be involved in project strategy and execution within a small group of project leaders, and collaborate extensively with data scientists, chemists, engineers, commercial strategists, and biologists throughout the organization to advance milestones and provide insights to advance Recursion’s capabilities. Essential attributes to this role include a bold, execution-first attitude and passion for deploying rigorous science to bring life-changing therapies to patients.
The Experience You’ll Need
- PhD in a relevant field (neuroscience, bioinformatics, statistics) or MS in a relevant field and 2+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience mining and integrating large multimodal data sets (including proteomics, transcriptomics, GWAS, genomics; in-house or publicly available) to identify targets and/or pathways relevant to drug discovery. Industry drug discovery experience preferred.
- Strong data visualization skills
- Fluency and experience working with high-level programming language such as Python or R for complex data analysis
- Experience leading drug discovery teams and efficiently advancing projects through proof of concept to preclinical
- Understanding of current state of therapeutic development and ability to drive scientific strategy
- Demonstrated ability to carry and prioritize among multiple projects
