Position Summary: The Bioinformatics Scientist group contributes to the development of new sequencing and array products. Members of the team work in close collaboration with wet lab scientists to support assay development, including primer design and assay optimization. The team is responsible for defining and creating workflows that enable simplified analysis of customer data, integrating best-in-class community tools as well as developing new methods and algorithms to be deployed both locally and on Illumina’s cloud computing environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a cross functional team, translating the challenges faced by the group into bioinformatics solutions. The position requires a strong background in genomics, programming, statistics, and algorithms. Responsibilities: Develop algorithms for analysis of various data types and platforms for translational research and clinical applications. Apply best practice statistical/computational methods to analyze large-scale biological data, such as gene expression, copy-number, mutation, methylation, next-generation sequencing, etc. in a fast-paced product development environment. Design and develop pipelines to address novel analytical challenges and to automate established analysis so that thousands of studies can be analyzed in a robust manner Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Requirements: Strong background in algorithms and software development Next Gen sequencing technology, tool usage, and data analysis Understanding & usage of biostatistics and bioinformatics algorithms Critical problem solving and data analysis Proficiency in programming in C, C++, C#, and/or Java Scripting experience with Python, R or Perl Superior written and verbal communication skills All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities. Education: Typically requires a Master's Degree or PHD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related field and a minimum of 0-3 years of related experience or equivalent work experience.
