You will be supporting the delivering of various aspects of complex bioinformatic analysis of our clinical sample processing pipelines, coordinate our participation in external quality assurance programs, inter-laboratory comparisons and develops standards for clinical NGS pipeline benchmarking. The role Illumina Laboratory Services (ILS) UK completed the sequencing for the Genomics England 100k project and is now entering the next phase of the genomics agenda within the UK and needs an exceptional candidate to help. Responsibilities will include Lead in the interpretation of sequencing data analysis results Develops algorithms and workflows under general instruction Works with data sets from current and new platforms to solve complex problems of analytical, computational, and integration-related topic Maintains bioinformatics software and database integration Provides methods, prototypes, and code for implementation in internal tools and end-user applications. Establish Quality Assurance bioinformatics related metrics and protocols based on assay design and performance Creation of web-based bioinformatics tools including database design and implementation Coordinate tasks in Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) such as collection of requirements, software verification, maintenance and clinical validation Provides validation and support services Work collaboratively with bioinformatics and research scientists across the organization in developing, improving and deploying bioinformatics tools Communicate findings to the research scientists and present results to the R&D, process engineering, and laboratory team PhD in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Computer/Data science, Computational Biology or related field with some relevant experience; or MSc in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Computer/Data science, Computational Biology or related field with some relevant experience Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs Preferred background, skills and experience Some relevant experience Proficient with standard bioinformatics and analysis tools and packages Demonstrable skill developing tools and analysis pipelines with R, python, Java or C# Strong interpersonal skills; able to engage with and collaborate across inter-disciplinary groups Experience querying relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres) and familiarity with database design approaches Use of all Microsoft Office Applications (E.g., Outlook, Excel) Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Experience with genomic analysis of sequencing data – Whole Genome Sequencing, Exome Sequencing, ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq Experience with machine learning, Bayesian statistics, clustering/classification, multivariate analysis.
