GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The MIND data science group is a computational research laboratory of the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Disease (MIND) that develops and applies integrative computational methods in biomedical and brain research. We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative, and independent bioinformatician to be part of our team. The successful candidate will be working with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC) to analyze multi-omics data—including genetic, epigenetic, proteomics, and gene expression data—to understand the mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. They will also perform bioinformatics analysis on research data from the wider MGB and Harvard community. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Conduct research and analyses on multimodal omics data to gain a better understanding of biological processes in aging and Alzheimer’s disease. ? Work closely with other computational and experimental scientists to design and perform analyses. ? Develop and support websites to share, browse and visualize data and analytics. ? Provide bioinformatics support for various projects. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: ? Strong programming skills in R and/or Python are required. ? Proficiency in analyzing omics data, such as next-generation RNA-sequencing, is a must. ? Experience with statistical analysis is strongly preferred. ? Knowledge of neuroscience is desirable. ? Excellent organization and communication skills. ? Ability to work independently and take initiative when necessary. ? Highly motivated and able to meet deadlines. EDUCATION: Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related quantitative discipline required. EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years of experience in bioinformatics projects is required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work will be performed in a typical office setting, but remotely during the current pandemic.
