Job Description:

Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, The Big Data Institute, Old Road Campus, Oxford Grade 6: £29,176 - £34,804 with a discretionary range to £35,845 p.a. The Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health seeks to appoint a Bioinformatician/Computational Biologist to join the Lindgren Lab, within the Big Data Institute. The Lindgren research group focuses on the integration and analysis of large-scale genetic and genomic data to dissect the biological factors underlying endocrine and metabolic disorders and traits, with a particular emphasis on obesity traits and reproductive conditions. You will be responsible for assisting the team in pursuing research projects that align with the group’s vision, and will give computational support to ensure the team reaches its goals and deadlines. Specifically, the role will require computational skills and familiarity with maintaining code (e.g., in GitHub). Importantly, you will be working with genetic and genomic data types (including ATAC-Seq, Chip-Seq, RNA-Seq, and genotyping arrays), and standard quality control procedures, among others. This is not a postdoctoral position, but rather a staff scientist position that will focus on assisting team members with analysis, data collection and processing, infrastructure and storage management/organisation, as well as data visualisation and figure production. You will have a BSc in biology, computer science, engineering or any other quantitative STEM field(s) as well as a working knowledge of genomic data, including genotyping (SNP array) data, high-throughput sequencing data, or other data related to genome-wide association studies. Bioinformatics experience (such as DNA/RNA alignment and data quality control), programming experience (R, Python, BASH, version control (git)) and experience with visualization and statistical analysis of data are also essential for this role. This position is full-time and fixed-term for 1 year. Applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with business needs. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. The closing date for applications is 12.00 midday on Wednesday 4 December 2019. Interviews are expected to take place on Thursday 12 December 2019.
