Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for several Assistant Professor positions in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of computational methodologies including computer vision, machine learning, and neuroimaging, as well as experience in employing such methodologies in the study of mental health conditions is required. Successful candidates will have experience in submitting and receiving extramural funding from federal sources, such as NIH. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.
Teaching responsibilities may include training Penn/CHOP medical, engineering, radiology, developmental behavioral pediatric, neuroscience, psychiatry and psychology students, research postdoctoral fellows, and others in a computational approach to understanding and addressing neuropsychiatric variation from the perspective of both phenotype and associated biological mechanisms.
Clinical responsibilities may include collaborating with clinicians to develop and validate novel computational behavior analysis methods that provide granular, accurate and efficient assessment tools for clinical research and clinical practice. The candidate will not be engaging in clinical activities.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include conducting computer vision-based investigations of patterns of nonverbal communications and outward expressions of emotion, such as facial expressions, body actions, oral-motor behavior; and studies integrating multiple data types, including video, language, and neuroimaging data. Research should focus on mental health conditions including autism and the development of rigorous new analytic methods. Additional responsibilities may include developing a research training program focused on using engineering methodologies to understand heterogeneity of mental health condition phenotypes, underlying neural processes, and genomic architecture.
We seek candidates who embrace and reflect diversity in the broadest sense. The University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are EOEs. Minorities/women/individuals with disabilities/protected veterans are encouraged to apply.
