Job Description:

Despite decades of intense effort, cancer remains stubbornly resistant to treatment and causes one in four deaths worldwide. Traditional chemotherapy is highly toxic and rarely produces a cure. New drugs that target specific genes required by the patient's cancer can produce dramatic results, but few cancers have identified vulnerabilities that can be targeted by existing drugs, and even those that do usually evolve to be drug resistant during treatment. To put cancers in evolutionary checkmate, we need to put many more pieces (targeted therapies) on the board and develop better methods to predict which patients will respond to which therapies. The Broad's Cancer Dependency Map is a massive project devoted to doing just that through huge, ongoing experiments such as the Achilles Project and PRISM. We need your help to continue turning the data from these experiments into transformative science. As a member of the Cancer Data Science team, you'll apply machine learning to solve some of the most urgent problems in cancer research. You’ll be responsible for producing keystone datasets used by tens of thousands of researchers, developing and publishing advances in computational biology, and collaborating with some of the most skilled cancer biologists in the world to develop new technologies. Along the way, you'll cultivate your own ideas and projects with the support of a world-class computational group. Our team has backgrounds ranging from oncology to physics, cell biology to statistics, united in pursuit of a single goal: to finally transform the paradigm of cancer treatment. Learn more about our team at http://www.cancerdatascience.org/. Requirements: Bachelors degree in STEM field Proficient in at least one programming language Basic working knowledge of machine learning principles and techniques High interest in learning new science and solving scientific puzzles An independent mind and a willingness to wade into unfamiliar terrain Knowledge of cell biology is a plus Knowledge of statistics is a plus Proficiency in R or the python data science stack (numpy, scipy, and pandas) is a major plus All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
