Job Description:

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

Job Description

We seek a collaborative and innovative computational scientist with strong expertise in cancer epigenetics to join the Predictive Sciences team in San Diego and contribute to the development of transformative therapies in cancer and hematological malignancies.

Working alongside Research & Early Development colleagues in the Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center and global Informatics and Predictive Sciences teams, the successful applicant will play a key role in applying innovative computational research strategies to target diverse cancer mechanisms via novel therapeutic modalities including targeted protein degradation.

This role offers the opportunity to directly impact the origination and development of novel therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need, as well as broad exposure to diverse clinical and analytical research challenges. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and lead the analysis of molecular profiling experiments for target validation, MoA characterization, indication selection and biomarker identification using both preclinical and clinical datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate as a member of cross-functional teams to design and execute transcriptional and epigenetic profiling experiments to elucidate compound mechanisms of action and identify biomarkers for monitoring and predicting drug sensitivity.
  • Develop epigenetics strategies to investigate compound and disease properties. Design and implement novel epigenetic profiling assays and associated informatics approaches for their analysis and interpretation.
  • Integrate gene expression, chromatin structure and genetic alteration data from clinical and preclinical datasets to gain therapeutic insights into epigenetic mechanisms of tumorigenesis.
  • Develop and apply leading-edge computational strategies to influence decision making across early development of novel therapies, leverage disease stratification to translate pre-clinical experiments into clinical applications, and explore synergistic compound activities.
  • Author scientific reports, and present methods, results, and conclusions to publishable standard.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic and commercial research groups worldwide.

Background experience & complementary knowledge

  • Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field from a recognized higher-education establishment.
  • 4+ years of post-doctoral experience in applying quantitative approaches to solve biological problems in university, hospital, pharma, or biotech research environments.
  • Extensive experience with design and analysis of high-dimensional biological datasets including transcriptomics and epigenetic profiling data, both single cell and bulk.
  • Proven expertise in the development and/or implementation of algorithms to distill, analyze and interpret complex epigenetic datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to infer molecular mechanisms from high-throughput profiling data generated by perturbation of in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo model systems.
  • Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming, and data manipulation, using, e.g., R/Bioconductor, Python and other contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools and databases.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in top-tier scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and strong attention to detail.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative nature, and adaptability across disciplines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.
