The Job

In expanding our Machine Learning Platforms team, we are seeking a Computational Scientist with expertise in a relevant field of the Life Sciences, including: Pharmacology, Toxicology, Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Proteomics, Bioinformatics, or Systems Biology. Computational Scientists develop new scientific functionality; visualizations; interactive analysis tools; enhance ML models with new data or algorithms; and evaluate the quality of predictions. They are experts in their scientific domain and skilled programmers. This position is open to Ph.D. graduates that have experience working on projects applying computational approaches to proteomics or the analysis of drug-protein interactions. The successful candidate is expected to (i) have a strong understanding of chemical informatics and/or ; (ii) have solid experience in performing statistical analysis to large or complex datasets; (iii) be a skilled programmer in Python / Javascript; and (iv) have an enthusiastic, flexible mindset towards varied types of projects. The successful candidate will receive guidance and mentorship from existing staff scientists with similar technical skill sets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying commercial opportunities for predictive drug discovery applications from large institutional databases, including data exploration, data engineering, model feasibility, prototyping, building business cases for new products and general planning. 
 
What will you be doing?

  • Collaborate with peer computational scientists and software developers on tasks related to data content exploration, including local database setup, exploration, content analysis, visualization, etc.
  • Datamine large industry biomedical databases Identify commercially-relevant opportunities within, specifically related to drug design initiatives.
  • Develop predictive models for drug bioactivities using a combination of new and established machine learning approaches.
  • Compile reports for partners and collaborators.
  • Sanitize, curate, and verify dataset integrity for new commercial applications. 
  • Prepare required documentation, including case studies or manuscripts to support new data products or models.
  • Disseminate results of projects to staff scientists as well as non-scientific staff when necessary.
  • Preparing validation notes or publication manuscripts.
  • Remain up to date on trends in computational biology, computational chemistry and methodology used to explore proteomics and drug-target interactions.
  • Write production-quality code in accordance with company standards.

Must Haves

  • A Ph.D. in any related discipline in Life Sciences
  • One or more peer reviewed publications demonstrating proficiency in Computational Science or Bioinformatics.
  • A general understanding of modern computational techniques in Bioinformatics, including: protein-ligand docking, protein-protein docking, molecular dynamics, coarse-grained simulations, structural alignments/superpositions, etc.
  • 2+ years experience with Python, including knowledge of best practices
  • Scientific programming experience, notably: numpy, scipy, scikit-learn, biopython
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
 
Nice to Haves

  • Pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry experience
  • Experience developing code collaboratively
  • Experience with cloud computing and storage
  • A general understanding of SLDC standards and best practices
  • Project proposal and grant writing experience
  • Teaching and mentoring experience
