Position: Bioinformatics/Data Science Analyst Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Centre Department: Pathology Reports to: Principal Investigator Salary range: $62,166 to $77,688 per annum (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy) Hours: 37.5 hours per week Status: Temporary Full-time (1 year contract)University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Bioinformatics/Data Science Analyst in our Pathology Department. Diamandis and will work with the Diamandis Laboratory and industry partners with the goal of using modern machine learning and bioinformatic tools to develop new diagnostic tests and biological insight for neurological disorders. This is a unique opportunity for the applicant to show their leadership, passion and skills and gain valuable experience and work with other healthcare professionals will the goal of leveraging computational tools to accelerate healthcare and translational research. The successful applicant will be responsible for helping design and build approaches to mine existing scientific data and literature and those generated within the Diamandis group. Responsibilities Include: - Build and maintain various analytical pipelines for the analysis of large OMICS datasets and medical images
- Collaborate with team members on tasks related to interpreting data to draw biologically meaningful conclusions
- Lead communication of research findings in publications and patents
- Work with industry partners to help design and guide downstream pre-clinical and clinical studies
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of industry partners and other lab members to help design and guide downstream pre-clinical and clinical studies.
- Participate in grant preparation and management.
Qualifications: - At minimum, a Bachelors Degree in Bioinformatics and/or Computer Science
- Strong proficiency and experience with Python, Django / PostgreSQL, Javascript / React, Gitlab
- Up to two (2) years of experience with modern machine learning techniques and principles
- Up to two (2) year of experience with cloud computing and storage (i.e. Google Cloud Platform)
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Strong Inter-personal skills and the ability to work with a diverse research team
- Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating proficiency in the computational sciences or bioinformatics is an asset
- Experience in the preparation of research grants, literature reviews, project plans, status reports, budgets and other written reports required is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, problem solving skills, and exceptional project management skills is an asset
- Ability to learn quickly, and work well both as a member of a team and independently is an asset
