Job Description The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is seeking to hire a Computational Scientist to join the Viral Genomics group in the Infectious Disease and Microbiome Program in its genomic epidemiology programs for viral human diseases. The successful applicant would join an interdisciplinary team of scientists engineers and students and will be primarily focused on high throughput processing and analytics of SARS-CoV-2 data being generated at the Broad and its collaborators. This role will advance ongoing SARS-CoV-2 genomic surveillance efforts at the Broad commissioned by the CDC in partnership with state public health departments and contribute to data sets insights and bioinformatic tools. We seek a highly motivated individual to work closely with researchers and collaborators from across the Broad Institute including the Sabeti Lab the Genomic Centers of Infectious Diseases the Data Sciences Platform and the Genomics Platform. The ability to communicate effectively work well in a team setting and a desire to learn apply extend and pilot new computational methods are required. The position offers an opportunity to participate in a dynamic research environment in a fast-paced field of research. This position will allow for professional advancement skill development and co-authorship on publications. Responsibilities: Designs and executes computational analyses needed to support ongoing viral genomics research projects. Manages maintains and runs computational pipelines in the viral genomics space. Includes evaluating new and existing tools for performance and scientific suitability and helping to prioritize our future pipeline development needs. Builds computational capacity for colleagues in both US and abroad through training programs Helps train junior staff including associate computational biologists (ACBs) and some computational graduate students Collaborates with local state and federal governmental agencies and clinical partners to integrate and manage data pipelines and sensitive/protected clinical data May participate in writing grants and reports for funding agencies
Requirements: PhD in computational biology or related field with >2 years of related experience Experience with experimental design and statistical methods to process and manipulate data to perform quantitative data analysis Solid science background and experience with quantitative analysis and large quantitative data sets Experience with communicating scientific and technical results through peer reviewed publications and conference presentations Experience with the use of containerized bioinformatic pipelines to analyze large data sets
