Your role: EMD Serono is seeking an innovative, collaborative and enthusiastic Computational Structural Biologist to work on a variety of projects focused on drug design and drug discovery. The Sr. Scientist will join a team of highly motivated, cross-disciplinary scientists and will work on projects that involve protein structure analysis and design, biophysical property prediction, library design and novel molecular design. The candidate will work closely with wet-lab biologists within Discovery Technologies. Responsibilities will include: Design and optimize therapeutic candidate biologics through computational analysis of protein sequence and computational protein engineering Apply protein structure knowledge to predict and optimize biophysical properties Develop and benchmark predictive models Develop innovative and robust analysis and computational biology tools that can be used by lab scientists Work closely with laboratory scientists to develop novel therapeutic drug candidates. Contribute to external collaborations and partnerships Who you are: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics or related discipline with 3+ years’ experience in Structural Biology, Molecular Biology or Bioinformatics or Master’s degree in Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics or related discipline Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Bioinformatics with in-depth knowledge in Structural Biology or Molecular Biology 2+ experience of applied research in either an academic or industry setting preferred Experience in detailed protein structural analysis with an emphasis on protein visualization software, protein homology modeling and simulation, loop and linker exploration. Proficiency in computational design tools (Rosetta, MOE, PyMOL, Schrodinger Suite, etc.) Proficient programming skills and/or scripting (with R, Perl or Python) and demonstrated ability to perform high-quality scientific programming Familiarity and experience applying statistical fundamentals and computational science principles applied to life science (machine learning, descriptive statistics) Familiar with Linux in a grid and/or cloud environment. Experience with cloud computing preferred Demonstrated experience in data mining and quantitative analysis of high-volume biological data Familiarity with antibody, nanobody or large molecules screening and production technologies such as phage display, hybridoma generation Working knowledge of laboratory techniques in molecular biology, in vitro assays (ELISA, FACS, SPR), cellular assay and/or protein expression and purification is preferred Demonstrated ability to formulate and test hypotheses by designing and implementing computational approaches relevant to drug discovery efforts Ability to effectively interpret and communicate conclusions from complex data is essential Capacity to prioritize and work independently, complete tasks and advance projects, with minimal supervision Ability to work effectively in a matrix and in multidisciplinary teams Proficient written and verbal communication skills, particularly of complex information and concepts Creative, innovative thinking and experience analyzing protein sequences and structure RSRSO What we offer: With us, there are always opportunities to break new ground.
