The Early Data Science Group delivers data-driven, actionable insights through the application of computational science to all areas of AstraZeneca’s Oncology portfolio. The group has substantial expertise and a renowned track record in data science and bioinformatics, undertaking both portfolio applied informatics research and the development of cutting edge capabilities.
The Early Data Science team is growing to meet the strategic challenges pursued by AZ Oncology. We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated Associate Director of Computational Biology to join a team designing and applying cutting-edge computational analysis to drive clinical biomarker hypothesis and advance our understanding of response and resistance mechanisms of novel therapeutics with a strong focus on AZ’s exciting and expanding antibody drug conjugate assets. You will have opportunities to forge close collaborations with translational medicine and clinical development teams, delivering novel hypothesis to be tested in preclinical and clinical settings, and will be working in an interdisciplinary environment. As a computational biologist, you will also have opportunities to contribute to the development of innovative methods for integrative analysis of multi-modal data employing advanced machine learning and AI technologies. To do this you will:
Perfrom cancer biomarker analysis of multi-modal data from clinical trial samples in AZ’s key antibody drug conjugates (ADC) programs
Be an integral part of drug project and clinical teams to actively participate in scientific discussion and hypothesis generation and validation using computational techniques
Use your knowledge with cancer biology/drug discovery to deliver actionable insights that impact development of the next generation of cancer medicines
Work with our Research and Translational Medicine Leads to proactively influence the generation of data assets as part of a data generation strategy to evaluate novel hypothesis and drive target discovery
Form effective collaborations with industry and academic partners, publish your work in high impact journals
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or a related field with more than three years of experience in Pharma/Biotech or large cancer center
Significant experience in cancer biomarker analysis of multi-modal data (one or more of the following: ctDNA, WES, RNASeq, proteomics) from oncology clinical trials, and performing survival analysis regularly
Strong statistical analysis and programming skills in R and/or Python and familiar with Unix environment and high-performance computing environments
Solid training and experience of machine learning/artificial inteligence/network modeling
Deep knowledge of cancer genetics and key algorithmic & statistical methods applicable to cancer genomics
Strong communication skills that convey concise biological stories from complex data.
The ability to coordinate and pursue multiple simultaneous projects with tight deadlines
Strong external presentation and publication record
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with single-cell and/or spatial omics data
Highly independent and experienced in a team based environment
Well networked within external bioinformatics and oncology communities
