Janssen Research & Development, LLC is part of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies. Key Responsibilities: Janssen Research & Development (JRD) is searching for a Senior Scientist, Computational Biology to support our drug discovery and development efforts through the design, validation and implementation of machine learning and artificial intelligence models to support early research and development within JBio. This position will be responsible for the design and optimization of machine learning models by integrating heterogeneous data sources including protein sequence and structure, morphological imaging, biophysical properties, toxicology, and various genomic and proteomic datasets. The primary goal is to improve and further develop our predictive analysis pipelines to increase the safety and efficacy of therapeutics and decrease the time needed to progress hit compound to lead compound to compound in clinical trials. Primary responsibilities will include the development, testing and optimization of predictive models using both internal and external datasets in collaboration with structural biologists, computational biologists, molecular biologists, and data scientists. We are looking for candidates with a strong track record in machine learning and artificial intelligence as applied to chemical or biological datasets. Support drug design and development using groundbreaking techniques in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Building machine learning models that effectively learn from heterogenous multi-modal data, e.g. modeling biological effects of compounds on the basis of chemical structure and gene expression, high content image descriptors or other omics data Application and extension of existing models and software solutions for protein based drug design and optimization. Integration of the pipelines into internal expert system together with end-users (chemists, biologists, data scientists) and IT support: to promote transparency, traceability and visual component of the developed technique. Contribute and participate in internal and external presentations, peer-reviewed manuscripts and conference proceedings. Qualifications Education: PhD, with 2+ years of experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Computational chemistry, Bioinformatics or a related quantitative field, preferably with experience of interaction with research chemists or biologists in an academic or industrial setting or equivalent experience required. Experience and Skills: Required: Strong working knowledge of machine learning algorithms such as Random Forest, SVM, neural networks, etc. and/or Natural Language Processing techniques. Experience with machine learning and deep learning implementations using PyTorch, Keras, Tensorflow etc. required. Familiarity with large datasets, understanding of data analysis workflows, and/or knowledge of querying languages such as SQL. Experience with enterprise wide model deployment. Advanced working knowledge of molecular modeling, homology modeling, binding site prediction, molecular docking and target prediction techniques. Creativity and non-linear thinking to enable innovative solutions to complex problems. Ability to introduce validate and improve upon existing internal and external solutions / models. Excellent communication, reporting and team interaction skills, self-motivation, proactivity and the ability to work independently. Ability to develop and deliver a presentation on technical data with strong business impact. Desire for continuous learning and the ability to identify, evaluate and implement emerging algorithms and models.
