THE POSITION Despite stunning advances in bringing new targeted therapies to the clinic, many cancer patients still face poor prognoses. We in the global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences (gCBDS) department at Boehringer Ingelheim believe that data analysis will be an essential pillar in our quest towards developing innovative and impactful therapies that improve the lives of patients. If you combine a deep understanding of cancer biology and a strong data science skill set with an inquisitive mind, we would be happy to receive your application in our gCBDS Cancer Research team located at our Boehringer Ingelheim site in Vienna, Austria. Tasks & responsibilities Deliver data-driven proposals for new therapeutic concepts to our early cancer research portfolio. Distill actionable insights from complex computational analyses and effectively communicate them to non-computational colleagues. Establish and drive scientific collaborations within the company, top academic institutes, and external partners. Bring data science perspective and quantitative mindset to multidisciplinary project teams. Requirements Ph.D. degree in computational biology, bioinformatics, or cancer biology with strong quantitative focus. Alternatively, M.Sc. degree and long-term professional experience (3+ years) in computational oncology. Strong background in cancer biology and data science skill set including proficiency in R (preferred) or Python, version control, and Linux-based cluster or cloud-computing environments. Proven hands-on experience with large, multi-omics pre-clinical, and/or clinical data sets. Familiarity with the most common NGS-based data types (RNA-seq, DNA-seq, CNA). We consider the following qualifications as an asset: expert knowledge in an advanced analysis method such as network biology, causal inference, or machine learning as well as experience with (clinical) real-world data and protein bioinformatics.
