Job Description:

Known for its scientific and operational excellence, Regeneron is a leading science-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, invents, develops, manufactures, and commercializes medicines for the treatment of serious medical conditions. Regeneron commercializes medicines for eye diseases, high LDL-cholesterol, atopic dermatitis and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, pain, cancer and infectious diseases. Summary: The Imaging Sciences team seeks a creative and collaborative computational image scientist with a strong command of programming and mathematics who is enthusiastic to apply their expertise towards complex biological research across a wide range of therapeutic areas including immuno-oncology, metabolism, immunology, cardiovascular, infectious diseases, and ophthalmology among numerous others. Our team addresses image processing needs for any imaging modality in use at Regeneron and this role will complement our team by adding a heavy focus on the growth in digital histopathology. In this role you will encounter a wide variety of staining and imaging approaches (chromogenic and fluorescent; IHC, RNAscope, H&E, multiplexed fluorescence, etc.), for which you will collaborate with biologists and other imaging scientists to devise the right analysis strategies and tools. Some particular emerging areas of interest to which you will likely contribute include robust phenotyping of cells from highly multiplexed fluorescent images, advanced analytics of spatial co-localization and clustering tendencies of immune cell populations in tissue sections, and deep learning driven image mining of H&E stained tissue sections. As part of our team, you will embrace techniques of classical image analysis, as well as cutting-edge machine learning / artificial intelligence (ML/AI) methods when appropriate, often integrating open source or commercially available software with completely custom code. You will also augment our team's ongoing efforts to support routine usage of commerical image analysis software by non-experts, and to enhance image management infrastructure for facilitating advanced computational image analyses. Job Duties: • Advising on, developing, and communicating image processing strategies, primarily for digital histopathology • Programming software implementations for custom image management and analysis tools, which may include leveraging APIs from commercial software, Python scripting, RShiny app development, machine learning techniques, and more • Maintaining internal software repositories and documentation of internally developed image processing pipelines • Performing quality control of image data and image-derived analysis results • Producing analytics and data visualizations of image-derived analysis results, which may include simple statistical tests, various types of summary plots, spreadsheet aggregation • Supporting proficient usage of both commercial and internally developed image analysis tools throughout Regeneron • Leveraging our team's project management software to track project development, organize requests, and prioritize tasks Requirements: • PhD -OR- MS+4yrs -OR- BS+6yrs in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or similar. • 5+ years Python programming required; also, working knowledge of version control; experience with dedicated image processing libraries (e.g. Scikit Image, OpenCV, ITK); Experience in additional languages (C++, R, Matlab) a plus • Hands-on experience providing quantitative analysis of chromogenic and fluorescent images of tissue sections • Familiarity with one or more commercial image analysis platforms for digital histopathology (Indica Labs HALO, Visiopharm, Perkin Elmer inFORM, etc) • Expert understanding of fundamental principles of image processing (e.g., image filtering, classic segmentation techniques, image registration) • High level of comfort with mathematics relevant to quantitative image analysis (optimization, regression, statistics, signal processing, cluster analysis, general machine learning, etc) • Hands-on programming experience in deploying deep learning techniques in an image analysis context (e.g. with TensorFlow/Keras/PyTorch/etc) • Working knowledge of cloud computing, parallel processing (e.g. using SGE on a cluster) • Exceptional critical thinking, attention to detail, scientific rigor, and strong analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills • Ability to shift focus between multiple projects while still meeting deadlines • A proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a larger project • A positive attitude and willingness to learn new things • A passion for biology and helping others • A dedication to share, collaborate, and lift up others This is an opportunity to join our select team that is already leading the way in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry.
