Postdoctoral Positions – Computational Biology (Stites Laboratory)
The Stites laboratory is an interdisciplinary lab populated by scientists who individually come from computational, theoretical, experimental, and medical backgrounds. Our interdisciplinary capabilities provide new angles to study important problems and offer productive within-lab collaborations. The work the lab’s postdocs have done in this interdisciplinary environment has helped them advance their careers, as evidenced by their next positions after completing their postdoc within the lab.
The lab studies the RAS network and its role in cancer and disease. The RAS network has been our “model system” because it is well characterized, which provides abundant information that allows a variety of computational approaches to be applied to its study.
Three computational postdoctoral positions are available. The available positions/projects offer within lab experimental and computational collaboration. Position requirements should be supported by the candidate’s publication record.
1. Integration of AI/ML and mechanistic modeling methods. The laboratory is looking for a creative individual with a strong computational background who would work to integrate AI/ML methods with the lab’s expertise in mechanistic mathematical models. Position requirements: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, significant experience with, and knowledge of, AI/ML methods, knowledge of advanced mathematics, and previous experience working with biological systems.
2. Bioinformatics postdoctoral fellow. The laboratory is looking for a bioinformatics postdoctoral fellow for a project that involves the integration of a variety of cancer data types. The anticipated studies build on and are related to a recent publication from the lab (Mendiratta et al, Nature Communications, 2021 https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-021-26213-y ). Position requirements: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, significant experience in genome bioinformatics, and strong statistical skills.
3. Theoretical/modeling postdoctoral fellow. The laboratory is looking for a postdoctoral fellow who is skilled with advanced mathematics, comfortable with abstraction, and enjoys creative, innovative research projects. The projects will involve studying the manners in which biological networks are compromised to result in disease and in which they can better be targeted to restore function. Position requirements: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD, strong mathematical and computational skills, and previous experience working with biological systems. Previous postdocs who have worked in similar roles earned their PhD in physics or an engineering discipline, but all mathematically inclined and motivated candidates are encouraged to apply.
Interested candidates should send a CV and a statement that describes their interests and goals to Ed Stites, MD, PhD (email: research@stiteslab.org).
