Job overview We are looking for Principal Scientist– level computational biologist to join the newly forming Computational Discovery team within the Oncology Discovery unit. This person will be responsible for leading our efforts in the development and the use of state-of-the-art approaches in big data integration and mining to discover therapeutically relevant cancer mechanisms. The incumbent is a domain expert in molecular big data resources in oncology (e.g. TCGA, ICGC, CCLE), and the state-of-the-art computational methodology for their integration and analysis. He/she has an extensive proven track record, as established by first/senior-author publications in top journals or patent filings, of developing novel approaches for the integration, visualization or mining of large multidimensional oncology datasets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide actionable and testable mechanistic insight from such analyses. The incumbent is expected to be fully proficient in the relevant statistical methodology; strong experience in machine learning is a big plus. He/she also has a deep knowledge and understanding of the basics of cell biology and of the cell biological mechanisms and processes that are relevant to cancer, such as the regulation of the cell cycle, cell death, DNA damage response, stress response, signal transduction, immuno-oncology, etc. Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to; Use advanced data science tools to interrogate internal and external datasets to gain insight into therapeutically relevant cancer mechanisms Build capabilities for the computational interrogation of external datasets by curating the relevant external resources into a coherent knowledgebase Build capabilities for the computational interrogation of external and internal datasets by adopting the existing, and developing novel, computational approaches Effectively communicate with the group head as well as cross-functional teams to establish priorities and clear plans for deliverables Present findings to the leadership and cross-functional teams on a regular basis Aid the software development team in the adoption of some computational tools into the Lumin Bioinformatics application Package novel findings for publications in scientific journals and conference meetings Contribute to building the reputation of Champions Oncology as a leader in the computational oncology research Qualifications and skills Ph.D in bioinformatics, computational biology or a related discipline with a minimum of 5+ years of post-doctoral experience in the areas outlined above Strong expertise in oncology big data resources, and their integrative mining Strong expertise in statistical and machine learning approaches to generate actionable mechanistic insight from multidimensional data integration Strong knowledge of cancer-relevant cell and molecular biology, and good familiarity with the cancer therapeutics field Expertise in NGS techniques (WES, RNAseq, WGS, etc…), their basic processing and analyses This job description may be changed to include new responsibilities and tasks or change existing ones as management deems necessary Champions Oncology is an Equal Opportunity/ Affirmative Action Employer.
