AIM: To develop the world-leading research community in computational human biology and transcriptomics, supporting translational medicine across the Discovery workflow of the Faculty of Medicine’s 4D strategy.

The successful applicant will be at the international research forefront and will have impactful and well-documented scientific competence and extensive research experience in computational biology, including development and implementation of novel technologies/approaches. The person appointed should have proven excellent academic skills on the handling, analysis and multi-platform integration of large complex data sets, especially transcriptomic, proteomic or epigenetic data with relevance to human immunology. The candidate should document experience in advanced computational analysis and modelling and in-depth expertise in experimental wet lab work, including development of novel methodologies based on next-generation sequencing.

The person appointed will head an active research group and direct research activities at a top international level, coupled with supporting translational medicine activities in the Faculty of Medicine. The ability to perform research in close collaboration with other research groups across the School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences is critical for the position. The successful applicant will be expected to help establish a transcriptomic technology development and implementational core, supporting research across translational medicine programmes, interact with national and international stakeholders and scientific community and to obtain/contribute to obtaining research funding from external sources.

Candidates for the position should supply a plan which outlines their future research activity within the area of computational immunology and how this can strengthen research across the School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences, in particular the research in infectious and inflammatory disease.

A successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record delivering research in collaboration with international partners. Particularly, we encourage applicants that may strengthen our excellent work in Computational Biology and Transcriptomics through overseas collaboration and attract international funding.

According to the regulations at the Faculty of Medicine, the person appointed will lead and initiate research, supervise researchers, participate in teaching students and research fellows and undertake duties in connection with examinations, as well as undertaking administrative tasks as required by the prevailing regulations. The Faculty of Medicine is responsible for teaching (including conducting examinations) for the programmes of professional study in medicine and for providing organised research training.

The associate professor and professorial duties include teaching these groups in accordance with the current needs of the faculty, limited by the guidelines for working hours in these academic positions. The person appointed is expected to participate in adjudication committees for PhD theses, assessment committees regarding appointments and competence promotions, and to take the role as acting dean in disputations.
