Biostatistician
Primary Purpose: To provide statistical expertise and research support to faculty and trainees in the Department of Pediatrics.
Nature of Work: The position reports to the Director of Research and Finance and Administration Manager within the Department of Pediatrics. The position concentrates on computer based quantitative analysis and reporting. The work is subject to multiple peak periods that may be stressful due to high volumes of work and tight deadlines for internal and external grant application deadlines and information required for annual reporting requirements. The position establishes and maintains a level of professional relationships that supports exceptional collaboration with researchers. The position handles confidential data and work is subject to applicable ethical codes of conduct and privacy legislation.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
- Creating databases;
- Managing databases;
- Performing statistical analysis using a variety of methods;
- Adopting and applying advanced methods to various studies in the following areas of research: Biomedical, Clinical, Health System Services, Population Health, and Quality Improvement;
- Preparing statistical results for dissemination;
- Communication of statistical analyses and results to clinicians;
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships to achieve successful outcomes;
- Providing statistical consultation;
- Designing data collection instruments;
- Providing clients with strong conceptual and problem solving skills;
- Provide technical assistance and advice in the application of statistical methods and interpretation of results;
- Attend bi-monthly department research meetings for group learning opportunities
Education: MSc degree in Biostatistics or Statistics.
Experience: Significant experience with advanced level working knowledge of statistical software and programming languages such as SAS, R, S-plus, Stata, and SPSS. Practical collaborative experience in medical and health sciences are necessary. Experience working and collaborating in a diverse environment is required.

- Superior interpersonal communication (oral & written) skills that allow timely development and presentation of information and recommendations as well as the ability to communicate to those without statistical training;
- Demonstrable analytical and organizational skills;
- Ability to work with decision makers to achieve solutions to unique and complex problems.

Salary: The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $64,107.00 - 100,169.00 per annum. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
