We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of Intern, Computational Biology, in the Synthetic Biology Department. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant impact as a scientifically motivated self-starter capable of independently conceiving, conducting, and critically analyzing his/her own work with minimal supervision. Work for this position would begin entirely remotely, with the possibility of beginning in person meetings in Spring or Summer 2020. You are someone who is: • Passionate about science and takes a proactive approach to learning new technologies and methodologies. • Efficient and effective at working and communicating remotely. • Experienced with streamlining computational workflows. Some of the work you will be doing: 2 • Streamlining deployment of big data simulations in AWS cloud. • Working with synthetic biologists to develop and deploy biologically relevant algorithms. Qualifications: • B.S. in computer science, computational biology, biological engineering or a related area is required. We will consider candidates who have not formally completed all graduation requirements due to COVID-19 related university closures but had expected to graduate in spring or summer 2020. • 1-3 years of research experience in a computational biology environment. • Deep experience deploying and streamlining big data simulations in AWS. • Deep experience with aws-shell. • Fluent in R and/or python. • Ability to telework in a secure environment and adhere to Strand’s company-wide remote work policies, including those protecting confidential information. • Experience with genomic and/or NGS data a plus.
