The Position Start Date: Summer 2020 Work Hours: 40 hours per week Location: South San Francisco Campus Length of Assignment: 3 months Education Level: PhD Student (pursuing PhD, not completed) Department Overview: The mission of the Bioinformatics & Computational Biology group is to provide the information systems including the methods, software, databases, infrastructure, and training required for Research to access and analyze DNA and protein sequence information and related biological data. To utilize these information systems to analyze biological information and to identify genes of therapeutic interest. Project Description: The intern will be working with long-read RNA-seq data (eg. ONT or PacBio platforms) and analysis software in the context of biological questions relevant to early discovery oncology. While the specific project has some flexibility, it will fall within the broader scope of evaluating, applying, or contributing to the development of long-read RNA-seq software methodologies, depending on the candidate's background and research interests. Intern Qualifications: Senior graduate-student pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Computer Science or other relevant biology /data science discipline Solid proficiency in either R, Python, or Julia. Previous experience in the analysis of RNA-seq data (and an understanding of the limitations of these platforms) Solid grasp of sequence alignment algorithms and downstream statistical methods is strongly preferred.
