A Bioinformatics instructor teaching in the Computing Science and Information Systems department, teaching a wide variety of 1st and 2nd year courses as well as specialized upper level courses. Department(s): Computing Science and Information Systems Program: Bachelor of Bioinformatics Subject area: Bioinformatics Description of position: Computer Science is seeking qualified candidates to teach courses in Langara’s Baccalaureate program in Bioinformatics. This will be the first offering of the full four year program and we are seeking enthusiastic instructors and scientists to lead the implementation of this program. This position requires experience and education in computational biology. Preference will be given to candidates with qualifications in one or more of the following subject areas: Cloud Computing, Machine Learning or Data Visualization. Required qualifications: Expertise in Python MSc required, PhD preferred in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or a related discipline Evidence of academic or industry research in the area of Bioinformatics Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required Post-secondary teaching experience is preferred Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare and deliver instructional materials using up to date content and evidence based pedagogical principles. Teach computer science at all levels within the Bioinformatics program, including foundational courses Ensure effective use of the available class time and maintain appropriate office hours Supervise and manage students involved in applied research Maintain collegial working relationships Be a positive and active contributor to the development and implementation of the Bioinformatics program, the Faculty of Science, and the College. Length of appointment: *August 01 2020 to December 31, 2020, with one month preparation time. Salary Range: Salary placement is on Langara instructors’ salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
