Project Role
This role will be working on drug discovery related research projects within the Oncology Bioinformatics department at Genentech. Here, we develop and apply Client computational concepts to molecular data to better understand the biology of cancer and develop therapeutic opportunities. The candidate for this role will have a strong background in computational biology and -omics data analysis, an excitement to contribute to early-stage drug programs, and at least some experience leveraging advanced computational models or machine learning / deep learning frameworks.
In this role, you will contribute to basic research in Oncology Bioinformatics, applying these approaches to improve our understanding of molecular dependencies in cancer. Specifically, the successful candidate will be proficient in (or able to learn and adapt to) data analysis, integration, and visualization across diverse -omics platform types (including cutting-edge technologies, such as single-cell and long-read RNA sequencing), and have a strong track-record of contributing to and driving relevant genomic research as evidenced by high-impact publications.

Education
Minimum of a Master's Degree or PhD and postdoctoral experience strongly preferred in a Biological field with Information Technology, Bioinformatics, computational biology or related fields.

Required Skills
3-6 years of related experience required.
Strong computational and analytical skills, including high level of proficiency with R
programming language and Bioconductor packages.
Experience with analysis of high throughput data such as RNA-seq,
ChIP-seq/ATAC-seq.
Familiarity with public genomic databases such as ENCODE, TCGA, gnomAD.
Experience with working in Linux-based servers.
Good data science practice and understanding of data complexity.
Good understanding of biological concepts and an interest to learn more.
Excellent communication, advanced English reading, writing, listening and speaking
skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience contributing to and driving relevant genomic research as evidenced by high-impact publications
Experience analyzing single-cell transcriptomics data
