A Brief Overview
This position is responsible for assisting in the development of custom bioinformatics applications and conducting in-depth in-silico analysis and bioinformatics required for development of sequencing services and other molecular methods offered to various research and development, on-market product and technical support teams. The role necessitates close collaboration with Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Assay Research and Development, Clinical Development and Technical support teams to ensure effective and efficient delivery of sequencing analysis in accordance with Design Control Standards and Regulations.

What you will do
  • Assist in the development, testing, and implementation of custom bioinformatics applications to support the AGS team and assist in the enhancement and maintenance of existing applications

  • Assist in the development and implementation of data management strategies, policies and best practices for data quality control, data validation and data reporting

  • Perform in-silico analysis and bioinformatics required for primer design, sequencing alignments, data analysis and software development for the purposes of AGS team sequencing and other molecular methods development and validation in accordance with Quality Systems and Regulations

  • Support the design, development and validation of sequencing and other molecular methods by AGS team for use as comparator (regulatory submission and market clearance), discrepant test result resolution during assay development and post-launch, and sample characterization for circulating and emerging pathogens as part of the surveillance program. This duty will involve data analysis and documentation.

  • Provide timely sequencing analysis and molecular services to various Luminex functional teams and support marketing and technical support teams for field customer support

  • Interact with Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Assay Development, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Marketing and Technical Support to efficiently and effectively manage the sequencing analysis requirements for developing and on-market Luminex products

  • Maintain awareness of current advances in sequencing technology including next generation sequencing technologies to apply the utility and knowledge to Luminex product development and improvement

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in molecular biology, bioinformatics and computational biology-related fields or two years relevant working experience
Training and Skills
  • Experience with Python, Biopython, Perl, or other programming languages

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel (e.g. user-defined formula)

  • In-depth understanding of molecular biology and sequencing techniques and principles with special interest in infectious and genetic diseases

  • Demonstrated experience in primer design and sequencing data analysis

  • Knowledge and experience in nucleic acid software tools including BLAST, BioEdit, Codoncode Aligner, Primer3, and Geneious strongly preferred

  • Strong theoretical and technical competency with a variety of standard nucleic acid laboratory equipment and procedures including sequencing, end point reverse transcriptase PCR, real-time PCR, etc.

  • Experience with NGS and ddPCR technologies is desirable

  • Excellent team and individual management skills

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Ability to interact with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively

  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive, energetic and collaborative research culture

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal) with excellent communication skills

  • Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities

  • Experience in a GMP regulated environment preferred
