Position Description

 

We are looking for a motivated and skilled computational biologist to work on projects related to Replication Repair Deficiency (RRD), hypermutation and cancer. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a large team studying hypermutant cancers and their response to immunotherapy approaches.

Using our large biobank and registry, our team is currently working on a number of projects which include:

  • Developing exciting new bioinformatics-based tests to diagnose RRD signatures in normal and malignant cells.
  • Investigating the prevalence and characteristics of hypermutant human cancers.
  • Identifying novel biomarkers associated with RRD cancers and their response to immunotherapy.
  • Using animal models and human-derived tissue to discover novel therapies

As our Bioinformatician and computational biologist, you will be the critical cornerstone of our research program. You will have the opportunity to lead and support with data generated by our international consortium, clinical trials and exciting mouse models. You will also get the chance to use cutting-edge tools including single cell RNAseq, ATACseq and other DNA assays. This is a fantastic opportunity to boost your bioinformatics skillset and directly see how your work can have an impact on children’s health on a global scale.

Here’s What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Develop your professional and scientific acumen by engaging with global collaborators and stakeholders
  • Run WES/WGS/RNAseq pipelines in human and mouse models from FASTQ onwards
  • Use your skills to help troubleshoot complex bioinformatics problems and issues
  • Hone your skills with large sets of genomics/genetics data related to pediatric cancer
  • Contribute to publishing in high-impact papers including the preparation of figures
  • Maintain and organize lab computing database
  • Work closely with the PI and other lab members to organize laboratory activities and group meetings. Supervise and mentor students.
  • Work with a large team of clinicians and researchers on challenging problems and benefit from an intellectually stimulating and vibrant environment.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • PhD degree, preferred
  • A good understanding of genetics and biological data sets
  • Experience running WES/WGS/RNAseq analysis pipelines from FASTQ onwards
  • At least 2 years of experience using high performance computing environments
  • Proficiency with R, python and/or any other programming languages, preferred
  • Familiarity with adobe illustrator, preferred
  • Should be a good team-player; willing to support and work with different personalities and groups, including clinicians, lab technicians, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Able to function independently and also collaboratively within a team

Employment Type: Temporary, Full-Time (one-year contract) with possible extension to multiple years
