IMI Bioinformatics Scientist (m/f/d)

The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) is aiming to speed up the development of better and safer medicines for patients by supporting collaborative research projects between several renowned universities biotech companies and European pharmaceutical companies. Bayer as a global is involved in multiple IMI projects including IMMUcan (https://immucan.eu) which aims to understand the interaction between tumors and the immune system. The IMMUcan consortium is generating bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing data from cancer patients treated with immuno-oncology therapies. You will participate in this EU-funded project as a member of a large multi-disciplinary team based in the department of Biomedical Data Science at Bayer Pharma AG in Berlin where you will share responsibility for the analysis of various public and proprietary single cell omics data. You will further evaluate implement and use state-of-the-art computational methods for integrating these data types and interpreting results.

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Derive key biological insights from patient cohorts and assess the relevance of new targets
  • Analyze bulk and single-cell RNA-seq datasets from large human cancer patient cohorts
  • Set up bioinformatics tools for the analysis and integration of multi-omics data
  • Interact and discuss with pharma partners and academic labs in a global consortium
  • Strengthen the visibility of our research and scientific excellence through publishing and actively engaging with the scientific community

 

WHO YOU ARE

 

  • Recently obtained PhD in bioinformatics biostatistics informatics physics biochemistry molecular biology molecular medicine or equivalent research activity
  • Strong background in and passion for data integration data and knowledge management data annotation and big data analysis
  • Previous experience in developing computational biology/bioinformatics methods and proficiency in R or python as well as track record of working with and interpreting large and complex data.
  • Previous experience of single-cell RNA data analysis
  • Track record of publications and presentations showing your result-orientation and passion to innovate
  • High degree of self-motivation and autonomy with interest in life-long learning
  • Excellent team spirit & presentation skills along with the ability to work in a dynamic interdisciplinary team environment with strong focus and ambition
  • Fluent in English both written and spoken
