Associate Principal Data Scientist - Computational Biology 

 

Biomedical Data Science is a global computational biology team within Bayer Research & Early Development Oncology. We collaborate with our preclinical and clinical colleagues to learn mechanistic insights that accelerate drug discovery and development. In particular we evaluate therapeutic hypotheses and resistance mechanisms in molecularly defined sub-types of cancer. Our particular expertise includes a variety of high-throughput tumor molecular profiling methods including cancer genomics RNA-seq and single-cell multi-omics.

We are growing our team of computational biologists in Cambridge. The Associate Principal Scientist will provide statistical analyses and oncology understanding to help multidisciplinary teams make stage-gate decisions on portfolio projects. In this position you will:

  • Liaise and interface with researchers from various backgrounds (biology pharmacology chemistry translational sciences) in order to identify critical points in drug discovery projects and provide appropriate solutions for such critical points through analyses of available complex datasets
  • Collaborate with pharmacologists and chemists to nominate novel cancer targets
  • Design and conduct computational analyses to understand the mechanism of action and disease relevance of oncology programs from early research to clinical development
  • Lead analyses of relevant datasets which will include human genomics transcriptomics proteomics and screening data
  • Collaborate with IT Product Platforms and Data Sciences & AI to the development of statistical analyses bioinformatics pipelines and visualizations of genomic data sets

Qualifications

  • PhD in life sciences (bioinformatics chemistry biology medicine physics informatics) or equivalent background with very strong statistical or computational focus
  • Demonstrated experience with project prioritization and interdisciplinary collaborations in a matrix organization
  • Demonstrated experience in successful delivery of valuable analysis through application of domain knowledge
  • 3+ years of experience in the analysis of DNA-seq RNA-seq or single-cell RNA datasets in oncology
  • Proficient in programmingand analysis skills (e.g. R Python)
  • Strong analytical thinking and scientific rigor
  • Strong communication competencies to include presentations and delivery of complex quantitative analyses in a clear concise and actionable manner
  • Fluent in English
