Experience and Education Level I Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and two (2) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Level II Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, with thesis work in bioinformatics and computational biology. Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and two (2) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and four (4) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Level III Ph.D. degree in a related field of science or technology, and four (4) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and six (6) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field of biological science, and eight (8) years related research experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. Job Duties Level I Manage research laboratory computer hardware and software programming and maintenance. Ensure existing systems meet the continuing needs of the lab and/or recommend and test new systems. Perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies and results as assigned by the PI. Develop and/or modify software to support new and ongoing research projects. Resolve hardware, software, and network issues in support of the lab. Develop and maintain complex databases to support new and ongoing research projects. Train laboratory staff in the use of pertinent research systems. May specialize in bioinformatics, software development, network administration, or hardware/software maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned. Level II Manage computer hardware and software programming and maintenance for one or more research laboratories. Perform or direct others to perform complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies and results. Manage assigned research projects with minimal input from PI. Oversee the development and maintenance of complex databases to support new and ongoing research projects. Prepare research reports for presentation, and assist with preparation of manuscripts for publication. May specialize in bioinformatics, software development, network administration, or hardware/software maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned. Level III Collaborate with PI to identify and develop new concepts and programs for data collection and analysis. Use expert knowledge to develop new methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Perform, or direct others to perform, complex data analysis related to specialized research methodologies and results. Manage assigned research projects with minimal input from PI. Direct projects with undefined time lines and uncertain outcomes, requiring analysis from multiple perspectives. Use bioinformatics tools and related laboratory and public databases to support research objectives. Oversee development of software to support new and ongoing research projects. Oversee resolution of hardware, software, and network issues in support of laboratory objectives. Oversee the development and maintenance of complex databases to support new and ongoing research projects. Oversee the training of laboratory staff in the use of pertinent research systems. Prepare research reports for presentation, and assist with preparation of manuscripts for publication. May specialize in bioinformatics, software development, network administration, or hardware/software maintenance. Perform other duties as assigned.
