The Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) is the innovation engine of Novartis. We collaborate across scientific and organizational boundaries, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients. We seek a creative and collaborative data scientist to develop, evaluate, and apply novel methods of data integration of profiling data to enable translational research for drug discovery and development. In this role you will work at the cutting edge of science to tackle important challenges in biomedical research, assessing, integrating, curating, and mining complex data to drive biological/clinical insights. Your responsibilities will include: • Playing a key role in an interdisciplinary team of translational research/medical scientists, biologists and computational scientists • Developing and employing novel approaches to derive and evaluate inferences across diverse data types to identify novel drug targets, biomarkers and therapeutic mechanisms in hepatology, nephrology and other areas of unmet medical need • Interrogation of large molecular profiling datasets, including aptamer-based multiplex proteomics, to enable precision medicine • Combining an understanding of biological sciences with computational techniques in statistics and mathematics • Participating in alliances with external partners at top healthcare institutions, with the opportunity to publish your work Minimum requirements What you'll bring to the role: • Ph.D. or equivalent life sciences industry experience in data science (bio/cheminformatics or similar), systems biology or biostatistics • Proficiency in SQL and R/Python and competency working in a Linux/Unix environment • Demonstrated working knowledge and application of biostatistics and data modeling. • Familiarity with biological profiling technologies and the analysis tools to support them. • Experience in processing and integration of large multi-omics data (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) • High-learning capacity and curiosity with a solution-based approach to problem-solving • A team-oriented focus • Languages: Proficient English, oral and written Additional desirable attributes include, but are not limited to: • Industry working experience and handling/modeling clinical data • Proven effective and creative problem solving skills accounting for logistic and scientific constraints • Familiarity with web-based deployment of models and results (shiny, plotly or similar) • Experience in machine learning and/or Bayesian statistics and/or graphical models Why consider Novartis? 799 million. That’s how many lives our products touched in 2019. And while we’re proud of that fact, in this world of digital and technological transformation, we must also ask ourselves this: how can we continue to improve and extend even more people’s lives? We believe the answers are found when curious, courageous and collaborative people like you are brought together in an inspiring environment. Where you’re given opportunities to explore the power of digital and data. Where you’re empowered to risk failure by taking smart risks, and where you’re surrounded by people who share your determination to tackle the world’s toughest medical challenges. Imagine what you could do at Novartis! Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion: Novartis embraces diversity, equal opportunity and inclusion.
