The Computational Biology Team at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is seeking an experienced computational biologist to join our team. Expertise in precision medicine applications, analysis of multi-omic data, biomarker discovery, data management, software development, and management of multidisciplinary teams is expected. The Computational Biologist will contribute to diverse fundamental science research programs studying human health problems such as cancer and infectious diseases as well as microbial communities and environmental microbiology. The candidate will be responsible for data analysis from various high-throughput ‘omics platforms, including DNA/RNA sequence data, proteomics and metabolomics. The position involves technical work with complex multi-omics data from ongoing studies, focusing on application of methods for data integration, machine learning, and data coordination. The incumbent will direct and participate in computational biology methods development and validation for precision medicine, data integration, and biomarker discovery. PNNL works in multidisciplinary teams and the researcher will be expected to both work in and lead teams in this environment, as well as lead and mentor in manuscript and grant writing. The ideal candidate should have a strong fundamental biology background with significant statistical computing experience and experience in processing and analysis of high-throughput data. The candidate should have excellent communication skills with a demonstrated track record of securing independent and collaborative research funding. He/she should have experience with large collaborative biological projects, and setting vision and direction for those projects. The candidate should also have an interest in applying new approaches and knowledge to science problems associated with human health, bioenergy, and carbon cycling. They should be highly proficient in at least on programming language (Python, R, Perl, e.g.), experienced in software development practices (version control, unit testing, etc.) and should be familiar with data management practices for handling large data sets. Minimum Qualifications BS/BA with 5 years of experience MS/MA with 3 years of experience PhD with 1 year of experience Preferred Qualifications PhD in bioinformatics, biology, biostatistics, computer science or engineering with at least 8 years experience.
