ORAU has a contingent job opportunity for Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases (LPD), located in Bethesda, MD. The positions are contingent on award of an upcoming contract with NIAID Professional, Scientific and Technical Support Services. Salary for positions will be determined based on education and experience. Relocation support is not available for this position. Biologist (LPD) Perform advanced procedures such as cell culture, single cell and bulk RNA-seq, ATAC-seq library construction, ChIA-PET, western blotting, molecular biology techniques, adenovirus construction, ELISA, RIA, proteomics, lipid raft extraction, TUNEL assays, flow cytometry, electron microscopy and laser confocal fluorescence microscopy. Proficient in principles of molecular biology such as CRIPSR/Cas9 targeted genome editing and Immunology. Proficient in performing animal experiments, such as on mice. Perform general lab management, and responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment, maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, etc., required to handle biological materials, carcinogens, recombinant protein materials, acids, biological wastes, etc., maintaining work bench and equipment related to projects. Catalog and label laboratory samples. Help with maintaining and organizing inventory of samples and metadata, and with managing inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents. Liaise with vendors as needed. Maintain detailed records of experiments and their results and prepare the information resulting from these experiments for presentations at laboratory-wide meetings and for publication. Write reports of findings, state methods and procedures, including any modifications employed, specimens and materials involved and results of experiments. Maintain laboratory records. Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the task leader as part of the planning process for subsequent studies. Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment. Work with and support others in a collegial, open, respectful, and interactive working manner. Work collaboratively with others in the lab to generate data for publications. Assist in the analysis and interpretation of data and preparing summaries of laboratory findings to be used in reports and papers to be presented at scientific meetings and/or publication in scientific journals. Assist training of junior lab staff (postdocs, PhD students and postbacs) on hands-on bench skills, sterile technique, including high-throughput sample analyses, tissue culture, animal studies, next generation sequencing and general bench/cellular techniques. Qualifications Position Specific Requirements: Candidate must successfully complete/pass all background checks and certifications and maintain compliance with the NIH Biosurety program for working with Select Agents and to work in BSL3 and BSL4 laboratories Ph.D. required. Minimum 2 years of experience working in a laboratory setting. Comfortable with mathematical modeling, including p65 kinetic analysis and simulation. Comfortable with bioinformatics software. Comfortable with with computer languages such as C++ and Perl and bioinformatics software such as ChiP-Seq, RosMol and Winplas
